Industry Comps Explained

With Industry Comps in AlphaSense, you get:

  • Fast Competitive Benchmarking: Instantly compare performance across industry peers with more than 85 pre-built industry comp sheets

  • Customizable Insights: Tailor peer sets and metrics to align with specific business goals like benchmarking earnings performance or identifying growth opportunities

  • Expert-Curated Data: Trusted, accurate data sourced and curated by sector-focused analysts directly from filings, press releases, investor presentations, and supplementals

  • Efficiency Boost: Save time with Excel exports and visualizations

Here’s a quick 4-minute demo to show you how it works:

Getting started

To view the Industry Comps module, click the calculator icon in the left menu:

Once you’re on the Industry Comps browse page, you’ll get a sneak peek at some of the companies, metrics, and KPIs you’ll find in each comp sheet, like Load Factor and Passenger Mile Yield for Airlines, Occupancy Rate and RevPAR for Hotels, and CAC and Retention Rates for Enterprise SaaS.

You can also search by company or industry and filter by sector to help you more easily find the most relevant comp sheets.

Setting up your Industry Comps

When you click into any of our peer sets, you’ll see the data grid with all the most relevant companies we’ve identified within an industry and our default set of metrics and KPIs.

Use the filters at the top left of the page to narrow down the list to the specific comp groups or companies you’re interested in.

Once you’ve got your company list set, the next step is choosing the data you want to show. We have a default view for every industry, but you can click the Customize Columns button in the top right of the screen to view all of the available metrics and KPIs we have available and select the ones that are most relevant for your analysis.

Pro tip: Categories with a caret next to the name can be expanded to provide even more control over which metrics and KPIs you want to view.

If you’d prefer to work outside of the web interface, you can export the data to a formatted Excel workbook or unformatted CSV file for further analysis.

Pro tip: Our Excel workbooks have pre-built charts to help speed up your analysis.
