Search is the foundation of how AlphaSense delivers value. Within AlphaSense, you have two different ways that you can search:
By asking natural language questions with Generative Search, or
By constructing a query with keywords and companies with Document Search.
Given there are two ways to surface insights via search, we've built an easy-to-remember framework on knowing when it's best to begin your research with Document or Generative Search.
Because Search is so foundational to how AlphaSense helps you discover insights, it can be thought of as the D.N.A. AlphaSense. When deciding which method of search to begin your research with, use our D.N.A Framework of Searching - learn how to utilize the framework below
D.N.A. Framework - Overview Video
D.N.A Framework Explained
D.N.A. stands for Deliverable, Narrowness, and Alerts
When going to AlphaSense to begin research, run through each of these to quickly get a pulse check on your desired scope and output.
Deliverable - What is the output you’re wanting from AlphaSense?
Are you wanting the raw data from your search to generate your own conclusions?
Or do you want a synthesized summary to your question in a matter of seconds?
Narrowness: What’s the scope of what you’re trying to discover?
Is it more general and broad?
Or hyper-specific and pinpointed?
Alerts - Do you have to regularly stay on top of this area of focus?
Are email updates necessary for any new content that is relevant to your coverage area?
Or is this a research need that doesn't require active emails sent to your inbox
Applying the Framework
Now that you know the components of the D.N.A. Framework, it's time to apply it!
Deliverable:
Generative Search is ideal when you’re looking for a synthesized summary generated quickly for you on your query. Think about getting smart on a subject in a short amount of time.
Document Search, on the other hand, will provide you the raw data, allowing you to draw your own conclusions and takeaways.
Narrowness:
Generative Search is ideal for more broad and general topics, such as company and industry research.
Document Search is great If you’re looking for more narrow or specific topics, such as exact data points,
Alerts:
Generative Search is perfect if you don’t need regular email updates on the subject you’re searching for
Document Search is ideal if you’re needing to monitor the particular coverage area via email alerts
