(Classic View) Boolean Basics

To create a custom search string that incorporates numerous concepts or phrases, Boolean logic may be useful.

Boolean Basics Part I will cover the AND and OR operators, while Boolean Basics Part II covers the NOT operator and how Smart Synonyms can assist you in Boolean searches. 

AND: requires that all specified words or phrases must be contained in the search results

OR: finds search results containing either of the words or phrases you type into the search bar

NOT: excludes words or phrases from search results

Keyword + “Negative/Positive”: pulls up any mentions of that keyword that have occurred in a negative or positive context 

Keyword + “#”: returns documents containing numbers and your specified term
