Define the content universe you ask Generative Search queries against to either select or single documents
With Generative Search, you have the ability to ask natural language questions when interfacing with a single or multiple, selected documents. You can also engage Generative Search directly from the search results panel using the Ask a Question button.
Ask Questions about a Single Document
You can open Generative Search on a single document in two ways:
From the Search Results pane, select the sparkle icon next to the document.
When previewing a document, select the sparkle icon in the top-right corner of the Document View.
This opens the Generative Search pane, where you can ask questions conversationally or run use-case-specific queries about the selected document.
Generative Search automatically scopes your question to the open document and crafts a response based on that content. Some examples:
- In 500 to 1,000 words summarize this document
- Was [TOPIC] discussed in this document? If mentioned, summarize what was said about [TOPIC] and what the company's strategy is going forward.
- Are there any distress signals in this document?
If you are unsure what questions to ask, you can leverage ready made, curated queries based on the document type you are exploring. These queries are currently available for the following document types: 10K, 20F, 40F, 10Q, 8K Earnings Release, Global Filings Annual Reports, Event transcripts (including Earnings, Conferences, Investor Day, and Mid-quarter management updates), Earnings Press Releases, Earnings Presentations, and Investor Presentations.
Ask Questions about Multiple Documents
To focus your questions on specific documents rather than your entire search results, add documents directly from the Generative Search bar.
From Generative Search, you can:
- Upload files from your desktop to bring in external files. (Requires Enterprise Intelligence)
- Select documents from within AlphaSense to choose from your search results or saved content.
From Document Search:
- Use the checkboxes to select the documents you want Generative Search to reference, then ask your question in the Generative Search pane.
Generative Search will automatically recognize that the question is specific only to the documents you have selected and will craft a response based on that content. Some examples are:
- What are the similarities mentioned between these experts?
- Compare and contrast the following documents in their discussion of [TOPIC]
- In 1000 words, summarize the main themes from these documents.
Considerations
Presently, "Ask in Doc" is limited to up to 500 pages—regardless of whether that's 500 pages of a single document or 500 total pages across multiple documents.
