Use Table Explorer and Table Tools to extract quantitative data from documents in AlphaSense
AlphaSense significantly expedites extracting valuable data from tables in SEC filings, Broker Research, and other content sets, allowing you to expedite your quantitative analysis and assisting you when building financial models via Table Tools.
When you hover over a table in a document, a menu will appear at the bottom allowing you to launch:
- Table Explorer - Extract, analyze, and export financial data.
- View All Tables – Browse all tables within the document.
- View Similar Tables – Find similar tables across other filings.
- Export Table – Download the selected table as an Excel file.
- Download as Image - Download the selected table as a .jpeg.
- Add to Note - Save the table to your notes for easy reference.
Table Explorer
Table Explorer helps you extract and export financial data from SEC filings quickly and at scale. With features like AI-powered table stitching, restatement detection, and customizable exports, it speeds up the data aggregation work for financial modeling and benchmarking workflows.
How to Customize Your Analysis Using Table Explorer:
Use the tools below to customize Table Explorer and create clearer, more accurate financial views aligned with your workflow.
Document Selection
Control which documents are included in your analysis. Choose specific filings to:
- Focus your analysis on a defined reporting period (e.g., 5 or 10 years).
- Avoid duplicates or alternative versions of tables from amended filings.
Use the Select All drop down menu to:
- Select All documents.
- Choose the last 5 years or 10 years of documents, OR
- Clear all selections to start from scratch when selecting custom documents
Quarterizing YTD Columns
Many companies report year-to-date (YTD) values for some items like the Cash Flow Statement. Table Explorer can automatically convert these into quarterly figures by subtracting prior quarters saving you from manual calculations.
To enable this:
- Select the three-dot menu in the statement table view.
- Toggle on Quantize YTD Columns options.
Showing Original Values or Restated Values
You have the option to view either original values as reported in the original filing, or the restated values.
The default setting is to show restated values, to see original values:
- Select the three-dot menu in the statement table view.
- Toggle on Show Originals in Restatements options.
Q4 Calculation and Column Alignment
To enable this:
- Select the Annual and Quarterly dropdown menu.
- From here you can choose to:
- Include Q4: Calculated by subtracting Q1–Q3 from the full-year 10-K.
- Exclude Q4: Only shows Q1 - Q3 and FY columns
You can also reorder columns (e.g., Chronological, Years on Left, Years on Right, Annual only) to ensure consistency and comparability across years in the way you prefer.
Export Tables
Once your table is ready, use Merge & Download to export data to Excel.
View All Tables
To export tables from an SEC filing:
- Click the View All Tables button. This opens a pop-up window showing a list of all exportable tables in the document.
- Select one, multiple, or all tables from the list.
- Export your selected tables to Excel by clicking the Export button.
View Similar Tables
To compare tables across multiple SEC documents, follow these steps:
Click the View Similar Tables button.
- This opens a pop-up window displaying the selected table and similar tables from past filings. Review the historical data shown in the pop-up.
- You can scroll through and compare the table across previous quarters or filings. Select one, multiple, or all tables from the list.
- Export your selection to Excel by clicking the Export button.
Table Clipper
You can clip tables, charts, and images from global filings, ESG reports, company publications, and internal documents using Table Clipper. This tool provides a seamless way to transfer key quantitative data into Excel for use in models, analyses, and presentations.
How to Use Table Clipper
- Open a supported Document from Global Filings, ESG Reports, or Company Publications.
- Click the scissors icon to activate clipping mode.
- Choose the table, chart, or image you want to clip.
- Click Export Object to download the selected item as an Excel (.xlsx) file.
