Shareable one-pager for a single user on Windows. Full reference: End User Guide: Individual Setup.
Install AlphaSense App Manager once. It registers AlphaSense for PowerPoint and AlphaSense for Excel on your Windows profile (no admin) and runs the local helpers both add-ins need. Leave App Manager in the system tray while you work.
Need: Windows 10+, Microsoft 365 desktop PowerPoint and/or Excel, internet, an AlphaSense account.
1. Download and run this installer
https://plugins.alpha-sense.org/app-manager/channels/stable/AlphaSense-App-Manager-Setup-latest.exe
2. Pick these two options
- Only for me — per-user install; do not choose all users.
- Local registration — then Yes on the confirmation. Do not choose “Managed by IT…” unless IT already deploys the add-in for you.
3. Let it finish, then restart Office
Downloading and extracting helper packages can take several minutes. Extracting PPTX / PowerPoint dependencies is usually the longest step. Don’t cancel.
When App Manager is fully installed and open, fully quit PowerPoint and Excel (all windows) and reopen them so Office picks up the add-ins.
App Manager lives in the system tray. The X only hides the window; it keeps running.
4. Wait for helpers, then open the add-in
In App Manager, wait until Helpers ready. The first launch can take up to a minute. Open PowerPoint Add-in / Open Excel Add-in stay disabled until then.
Use those buttons the first time. You should see an AlphaSense tab in that app.
5. If you don’t see the tab
In PowerPoint or Excel: Home → Add-ins → AlphaSense for PowerPoint or AlphaSense for Excel. After you open it once, it should return on later sessions.
6. Sign in and use it
AlphaSense Chat (or Login / Logout) → your AlphaSense email → Continue → password or SSO.
Then ask in the taskpane (“What do you need help with?”). @mention a slide, sheet, or file, or attach files. Skills are reusable prompts; Custom Instructions are standing preferences. In PowerPoint, Deck Builder plans multi-slide decks.
Keep App Manager running. If the pane is blank or asks you to complete setup: tray icon → Check Helpers / Restart Helpers, then retry.
