What are Keyword Variables
Keyword Variables allow you to have a single dashboard for multiple use cases and topics. These customizable variables, or filters, allow you to update your saved searches and document widgets in the dashboard. You will be able to edit saved searches directly from the widget to update your search string without ever having to build the search again.
- Variables are nouns related to the specific dashboard
- E.g. company, vehicle, beverage, software
- Variables are case insensitive, can’t include special characters, must be inputted between {}
- Any search you can run in the keyword search can be duplicated with variables
- Examples:
- Tesla TAM # = {company} TAM #
- Netflix ad-supported subscription outlook = {company} {subscription type} outlook
- Diabetes trial phase = {disease} trial phase
- Examples:

Dashboard Properties & Variables
To update your Dashboard widgets to specific keywords related to your terms:
- Click on Manage Dashboard
- Input the keywords in the newly created variable textboxes
Underneath "Manage Dashboard," you can now apply "properties" to the dashboard for quick filtering for your key focus areas. You can set filters for companies as well as keywords. Once you select "add property," a menu will pop up, allowing you to define what kind of property it is, such as company, industry, keyword, or custom variables.
NOTE: Each [property that is added will become available in the Manage dashboard panel at the top of the list. If your created filter is not a part of the dashboard properties, then it will not be able to filter the dashboard. For example, if you add industries and select automobiles as your industry, If you delete the dashboard property of "industry," it will no longer filter for automobiles.
- You can also reorder or delete your properties at any time for a custom view.
- You can also select custom variables as one of your dashboard
Variables in Keyword Editing
Once a dashboard property for a variable has been configured, it can be used within keyword searches from within the dashboard itself. You can view them when you go to edit your search string and easily apply the variables to update your widgets.
Running Saved Searches with Variables
It should be noted that only searches within the dashboard will display the variables you have added. At present moment, you are unable to save a search with a variable outside of the dashboard, but you can always run a previously existing saved search and you will be prompted to enter any variable you would like to apply. If you run a search with a new variable, you will be prompted to add the search to your dashboard.
NOTE: Alerts cannot be created for Saved Searches that contain variables
