AlphaSense brings together multiple financial and alternative data sets in one platform to provide a comprehensive view of a company. Each data set is normalized into a consistent structure so that metrics line up across companies and can be reviewed and compared without switching between tools.

When you click on any metric on a Company Profile, you can see the data provider and either a direct link to the source document or a pre-built search to find the metric in relevant source documents. This article explains where the data comes from and why your options may differ from one data point to another.

How AlphaSense Sources Financial Data

The financial data in AlphaSense falls into two broad categories:

• AlphaSense data: Data that AlphaSense extracts and curates directly from filings and documents.
• Third-party data: Data that AlphaSense sources through trusted third-party data providers.

In both cases, we perform in-house QA and company-level data is standardized to make it easier to compare metrics across companies.

AlphaSense Data

AlphaSense data is ingested into the platform directly from original filings and documents.

Because AlphaSense sources this data from the original document, you can access the underlying filing directly to gather the original context and verify accuracy against the original report in a single step.

Third-Party Data

AlphaSense also works with high-quality third-party data providers to extend coverage and provide valuable data to extend the available depth and breadth of data you can access in AlphaSense. This allows AlphaSense to offer broad coverage across companies, geographies, and data types.

For many licensed financial figures, you can trace the number back to the original filing using Find in Search which opens a pre-built AlphaSense search that takes you to the figure in the source document.

Verifying Metrics by Source

The way you confirm a number depends on how that data was produced:

• AlphaSense data: 1-click auditing directly to the source document
• Third-party data: Verify using Find in Search to search for the figure in company filings

AlphaSense shows you the source of each data point when you click on it so you can choose the right way to verify a number as you work.

The Data Sets You May See

Depending on the company and the page you are on, the data source panel may reference one or more of the following:

• Historical financials: As-reported income statement, balance sheet, and cash flow figures
• Segment financials: As-reported business and geographical segment financials
• Consensus estimates: Forward-looking analyst expectations for key metrics, where available
• Market data: Stock pricing and volume metrics
