The Gong integration lets you securely connect your organization's Gong workspace to AlphaSense, so you can search, analyze, and reference call transcripts alongside external research. AlphaSense supports a single workspace-wide connection, which is set up once by a Gong admin and makes synced calls available to all users in your organization according to their existing Gong permissions.
Once connected, AlphaSense mirrors Gong's permission model — users will only see calls in AlphaSense that they are already authorized to access in Gong.
Before You Begin
- You must have an active Gong account with API access enabled.
- Only a Gong Admin can set up the workspace connection.
- AlphaSense does not override Gong permissions. Users who do not have access to a call in Gong will not see it in AlphaSense.
Step 1: Connect Your Gong Workspace
A Gong admin initiates the integration from AlphaSense.
- Go to the Integration Center in AlphaSense.
- Select Gong under the Productivity category.
- Click Connect Gong and follow the on-screen instructions:
- Choose Workspace connection.
- Authenticate your Gong account.
- Select the workspace, permission profiles, and/or users to sync.
- Click Continue, then Sync to complete setup.
Once the connection is established, it appears as Active in the Integration Center and content sync begins shortly after.
Step 2: Select What to Sync
During setup, the admin selects which content to bring into AlphaSense. You can sync by:
- Workspace — all call transcripts accessible within the Gong workspace.
- Permission Profiles — calls belonging to users in a specific Gong permission profile.
- Individual Users — calls for specific users.
You can also apply tags during setup to help categorize and surface content in AlphaSense search. Bulk and individual tagging are both supported. Review your selection and settings before clicking Continue.
Note: For workspace connections, sharing is automatically controlled by Gong permission mirroring. Manual sharing settings are not available.
What Gets Synced
| Item Type | What's pulled into AlphaSense |
|---|---|
| Call Transcripts | Call transcript and metadata (participants, date, duration, associated account/opportunity). |
| Permission Profiles | Used to determine which users' calls are synced and who can see them in AlphaSense. |
Step 3: Manage the Integration
After setup, you can update your configuration at any time from the Integration Center.
- Go to Integration Center and select Gong.
- Under Manage Configuration, you can:
- Add or remove synced users, permission profiles, or workspace scope.
- Adjust tags on synced content.
- Save and sync the updated configuration.
Sync Cadence
- New calls: synced every 15 minutes.
- Deleted calls: removed from the AlphaSense index every 6 hours. This cadence is dictated by Gong's API rate limits.
- Permission profile changes: sharing updates are applied every 24 hours.
- Daily sync limit: due to Gong's strict API rate limits, AlphaSense syncs a maximum of 7,000 calls per day.
Step 4: Disconnect the Integration
To disconnect the Gong integration:
- Go to Integration Center > Gong.
- Click the Disconnect button.
- In the confirmation dialog, check Keep synced content in AlphaSense even after disconnecting if you want to retain existing calls.
- Click Disconnect & Keep Content or Disconnect & Delete to proceed.
If you choose to delete, allow a few hours for content to be removed from the AlphaSense index. If you choose to keep content, calls remain searchable but will no longer appear in the Monitoring and Reports sections of the Integration Center.
Monitoring
Use the Monitoring tab to track activity and detect issues.
Information Displayed:
- File Name: Title of the call being processed.
-
Status:
- Processing: Call is being indexed.
- Synced: Call is available for search.
- Error: Call failed to sync.
- Last Activity: Timestamp of the most recent action.
Steps to Access:
- Go to Gong > Monitoring.
- Review recent syncs and statuses.
- For errors, check the Reports section for details.
Reporting
The Reports tab provides logs and diagnostics.
Report Types:
- Full Audit Log: all sync events with metadata (user, action, timestamp).
- Error Report: calls that failed to sync, with details on the cause.
- Skipped Files Report: calls excluded due to size limits or unsupported formats.
Steps to Access:
- Go to Integration Center > Gong > Reports.
- Choose the report type.
- Download in your preferred format.
Security & Permissions
AlphaSense ensures that all data transferred between Gong and AlphaSense is secure and that access is consistently controlled.
- Permissions are mirrored directly from Gong. Only users with access to a call in Gong can view it in AlphaSense.
- AlphaSense does not allow permissions to be modified within the platform — access is always governed by Gong.
- Changes to a user's Gong permission profile are reflected in AlphaSense within 24 hours.
Troubleshoot & FAQs
What types of connections are available?
AlphaSense supports a single Workspace connection for Gong. Individual or private connection types are not available.
What are the prerequisites?
An active Gong account with API access enabled, and a user with Gong Admin permissions to complete the setup.
How frequently does AlphaSense sync Gong data and what type of Gong content syncs?
New calls are synced every 15 minutes. Deleted calls are removed every 6 hours. Permission profile changes are applied every 24 hours. Gong call transcripts are synced, whereas call recordings/audio are not at present moment.
What is the daily sync limit?
Due to Gong's API rate limits, AlphaSense syncs a maximum of 7,000 calls per day. Large workspaces may take multiple days to fully ingest during onboarding.
Can non-admin users view synced Gong calls in AlphaSense?
Yes, provided they have the necessary authorization in Gong. AlphaSense mirrors Gong permissions on every call — users can only access content they are already permitted to view in Gong, and those permissions cannot be modified within AlphaSense.
Can I sync calls from specific users or teams only?
Yes. During setup, you can scope the sync to specific users or Gong permission profiles, so only authorized calls are ingested into AlphaSense.
What happens if a call is deleted in Gong?
Deleted calls are removed from the AlphaSense index every 6 hours, in line with Gong's API rate limits.
What happens if a user's Gong permission profile changes?
Sharing and access changes resulting from updated permission profiles are synced every 24 hours.
What happens to my content when I disconnect?
You can choose to keep or delete synced content at disconnect time. If kept, calls remain searchable in AlphaSense but stop receiving updates and are removed from the Monitoring and Reports sections. If deleted, allow a few hours for the content to be fully removed from the index.
By following this guide, you can set up and manage your Gong integration in AlphaSense effectively while keeping your call data secure and accessible.
