Why is the Proximity Window helpful?

Since authors rarely mention relevant terms right next to each other, AlphaSense builds flexibility into your multi-term searches with the Proximity Window.

AlphaSense defaults to a 15 word proximity to find mentions of your search string across documents even if your terms aren't right next to each other and separated by filler words that don't directly relate to your search.

When it comes to researching multiple terms or themes, the Proximity Window removes the guessing game by building flexibility and accuracy to surface content that pertains to your search, even though the terms might not be right next to each other in the document.

Adjusting the Proximity Window

To adjust the Proximity Window

1. Click the "radar" icon in between the Keyword Search bar and Company/Ticker Search bar
2. Adjust the slider to your desired proximity.

A good rule of thumb is:

• 15 words = your search terms are roughly in the same sentence
• 50 words = your search terms are roughly in the same paragraph
• 300 words = your search terms are roughly on the same page

Titles Only Searching

Titles Only searching helps you narrow your search to only the most relevant documents that focus entirely on the topic your researching, rather than documents that simply contain mentions of the research topic.

To run a Titles Only search,

1. Click the "radar" icon in between the Keyword Search bar and Company/Ticker Search bar
2. Select "Titles Only"
