Learn how to use Keyword, Company/Ticker, and Combination Search to quickly find the most relevant documents and insights
Overview
Document Search helps you quickly find specific information across AlphaSense’s extensive library of business and financial content. By understanding how to use the search bars, you can search with more precision, reduce noise in your results, and focus on the insights that matter most.
There are three primary ways to search in Document Search:
- Keyword Search
- Company/Ticker Search
- Combination Search
You can also use Generate Search Summary to quickly summarize results from your search using Generative Search.
Note: To learn more about narrowing your results after running a search, see the help center article on Vertical Source Filters and the AlphaSense Content Menu.
Keyword Search
Use Keyword Search when you want to search for a topic, theme, trend, product, market, or phrase across AlphaSense content.
This type of search is useful when your research is not tied to a specific company or list of companies.
To run a Keyword Search:
- Enter your keyword, phrase, or theme in the Keyword search bar.
- Leave the Company/Ticker search bar empty.
- Click the blue Search button.
After you run a keyword search, AI-Powered Suggested Filters may recommend relevant sources based on your keyword. You can select one or more suggested filters to narrow your results and focus on the most relevant content.
Note: The widgets and summary content displayed on the results page will change dynamically based on the keywords searched.
Company/Ticker Search
Use Company/Ticker Search when you want to search for documents related to a specific public or private company, or a list of companies.
The Company/Ticker search bar is located at the top of the Document Search page, alongside the Keyword search bar.
To run a Company/Ticker Search:
- Enter a company name or ticker in the Company/Ticker search bar.
- Leave the Keyword search bar empty.
- Click the blue Search button.
AlphaSense will load documents issued by or about that company. Depending on the company selected, you may also see a company overview page with key financials, recent documents, and other relevant company information.
Note: When you run a Company/Ticker Search without entering a keyword, you will be redirected to the Company Profile page for that company.
Combination Search
Use a Combination Search when you want to search for a specific topic within a company, list of companies, or set of content.
Combination Search allows you to pair a keyword or theme with one or more companies to return more targeted results.
For example, you could search for:
- “pricing pressure” across a specific company
- “AI investment” across a peer set
- “supply chain disruption” within earnings call transcripts
- “margin expansion” across companies in a specific industry
To run a Combination Search:
- Enter your keyword, phrase, or theme in the Keyword search bar.
- Enter a company name, ticker, or list of companies in the Company/Ticker search bar.
- Click the blue Search button.
Your results will include documents that match both your keyword and company criteria, helping you find more precise market, company, or industry insights.
Generate Search Summary
When working in Document Search, you can use Generate Search Summary to summarize results from your search using Generative Search.
This is helpful when you want a faster way to understand the key themes, trends, or takeaways from the documents surfaced by your search.
To generate a search summary:
- Run a Keyword Search or Combination Search.
- Click Ask a Question to open the Generative Search pane.
- Select Generate Summary.
AlphaSense will generate a summary based on the content returned in your search results, helping you quickly identify the most relevant insights before reviewing individual documents in more detail.
You can also enter your own natural language question in the Generative Search pane to ask a more specific question about the results.
