What are Vertical Filters?
Vertical Filters allow you to quickly switch between content sets and refine your search results. You can access them from the sidebar in Document Search and Company Profiles, or within Generative Search using the document selector.
With Vertical Filters, you can:
- Filter across AlphaSense Library content (e.g., Broker Research, Company Docs, News)
- Access Internal Content (e.g., SharePoint, Google Drive)
- Apply non-content filters such as timeframe, industry, geography, market cap, and tags
Things to Know:
- If the filter panel is not visible, click the expand/collapse icon on the left-hand side to open it. To maximize screen space, collapse the panel again or select a document (which will auto-collapse the menu).
- For more advanced filtering, use the Full Sources Menu by clicking Sources.
How to Filter AlphaSense Library Content
Filter results by external content sources like broker research, company documents, news, and more.
To refine further:
- Click the dropdown caret to access subcategories within each content type
- Select or deselect checkboxes to apply filters
- Use the “Only” option to isolate a single content type
- Click Show More to expand the full list of available sources
Some content types allow deeper filtering. For example:
- Select News
- Expand the dropdown
- Choose Thought Leadership by selecting Only
How to Filter Internal Content
Filter results using your organization’s integrated internal sources.
Under Internal Content you can access your organization’s connected data sources and metadata filters.
To refine internal content:
- Filter by integration source (e.g., SharePoint, Google Drive)
- Filter by document metadata:
- Owners
- Integration Authors
- Document Types
Note: When content is ingested into AlphaSense, it’s automatically categorized with the appropriate, industry-specific Document Types.
How to Use Non-Content Filters
Refine results using attributes like date, company details, industry, and tags.
In addition to content types, you can refine results using non-content filters, including:
Date
- Select a preset range (1 Year, 2 Year), or choose Other → Custom to define a specific timeframe.
Company Filters
- Filter by Market Cap, Industry, or Country. You can also set one or more countries as a default.
Curation
-
Filter based on your content engagement, including:
- Highlight Colors
- Highlight Tags
- Tags
- Content scope: All Content, My Content, or Shared with Me
Note: Tags are applied at the document level while highlight tags are applied to specific snippets within documents.
