Quickly narrow your results by selecting the right content sets using multiple filtering options across the platform
- Sources Menu
- Vertical Filters
- Source Operators (Keyword Search)
- Sources Dropdown (Generative Search)
Sources Menu
The Sources menu is the most comprehensive way to filter content in AlphaSense and is available across multiple workflows.
Where to access:
- Document Search & Company Profile: Click Sources (next to Overview)
- Generative Search: Click View All Sources from the Sources dropdown
How it works:
- Left panel = broad content categories
- Right panel = specific content types
- Use checkboxes to include/exclude content
- Use Only to isolate a single category
- Use the search bar to quickly find a source (e.g., type 10-K instead of browsing)
Vertical Filters
Vertical Filters provide a faster way to refine results without opening the full Sources menu.
Where to access:
- Sidebar in Document Search and Company Profiles
- Document selector in Generative Search
Use these to:
- Toggle between major content sets
- Apply common filters (e.g., content type, internal vs. external)

Source Operators (Keyword Search)
Filter content directly from the search bar. Use source operators to apply filters without opening any menus.
How to use:
- Type in:[content type] in the keyword search bar
- Press Tab to apply
Example:
in:10k → returns only 10-K filings
This is the fastest way to narrow results when you know exactly what content you need.
Sources Dropdown (Generative Search)
Control content included in your AI-generated responses
Use the Sources dropdown to define which content sets Generative Search should use.
How it works:
- Select content types directly from the dropdown
- Click View All Sources for advanced filtering
